               Concerning Christian warfare 3 <> Ephesians 6:15-17

The Christian soldier must have his feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. He must be ready at all times to carry the good news of peace. When we relax, we are in a stagnated state. Our safety is following Jesus to the mountain, sharing good news of the Gospel & promoting peace. (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15)

Along with the preparation of the Gospel of peace a soldier must have the shield of faith, for protection against the fiery darts of the devil. Faith here means confidence in the Lord & His Word. When temptation comes, when circumstances overtake us, when doubt comes, when we feel we may crash, faith overtakes all of these & says look up, “I believe God.”

The helmet of Salvation is provided by God (Isaiah 59:17). No matter how fierce the battle, the Christian is not overcome with fear, he knows that ultimate victory is sure. There is an assurance of victory that delivers him from retreat or surrender. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Finally, we come to the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. The classic illustration of this is our Lord's use of the Word when he encounters the devil. Three times He quoted the Word of God <> Not just random verses but the ones God gave Him to use just for that particular occasion (Luke 4:1-13). The Word of God here does not mean the whole Bible, but that portion that fits the occasion. It has been said; God gave us all the protection we need. We must see that there is truth with our walk with the Lord, that our lives are right, with God & with one another, that we seek to make peace wherever we go, that we lift up that shield of faith together to quench the fiery darts, of the evil one, that we protect our minds from fears & anxieties that easily come, & that we use God's Word to good effect in the power of the Spirit. Remember it was by the repeated thrusts of the sword of God's Word that Jesus overcame His adversary in the wilderness. We can do the same, just learn how to use the Word.
