               Concerning Christian warfare 2 <> Ephesians 6:12-14

Point of Contact <> By: Bro. Ben Van Winkle

Paul tells us that this warfare is no against godless philosophers, or crafty priests, or Christ denying cultists, or infidel rulers. This battle we fight is against demonic forces, against fallen angels, against evil spirits. Even though we cannot see them we are surrounded by the wicked spirits. These demonic spirits cannot indwell a true believer, but they can harass us. As Christians we should not be preoccupied with the subject of demonism; neither should we live in fear of them. When we have the armor of God we have all we need to hold our ground. The Apostle Paul speaks of these fallen angels as principalities & powers; as rulers of the darkness of this age, & a spiritual host of wickedness in heavenly places. We don't have sufficient knowledge to distinguish between them.

Paul was guarded by a Roman soldier in full armor. Always quick to see spiritual lessons in his natural surroundings, he makes this observation: We are surrounded by strong foes: So, this means that as Christians we should take up the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand when these conflicts reach their fullest intensity, & still be standing when the smoke clears. The evil day I'm sure refers to any day when the enemy comes against us. Satan & his opposition seems to come in waves, advancing & receding. After the Lord's temptation in the wilderness, the devil left Him for a season (Luke 4:13).

The first piece of armor is the truth. We certainly must be faithful in holding the truth of God's word, but we must also allow the truth to hold us. It must be applied to our lives. As we test everything by the truth, we find strength & power in the battle.

The 2nd piece is the breastplate of righteousness. As believers we are clothed with the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21) but one must also manifest integrity & uprightness in his personal life. It has been said, “When a man is clothed in practical righteousness, he cannot be swayed, Words are no defense against accusation, but a good life is.” If our conscience is void of offense toward God & man, the devil has nothing to shoot for. David wore the breastplate in (Psalms 7:3-5). Jesus wore it at all times (Isaiah 59:12)
