                    Humility of Christ-3 <> Philippians 2:8-9

Each step we take into this passage of Scripture describes the increasing depth of Jesus humiliation. He was not only willing to leave heaven, He emptied Himself, He became a servant, He became man! Now we see He humbled Himself! There was no depth He would not go to save our guilty & wicked souls. Blessed be the name of Jesus.

He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death. He obeyed even though it cost Him, His life. Jesus was one in: Matthew 13:46} who, when He had found one pearl of great price, went & sold all that He had & bought it. In other words He gave up the life in heaven to sacrifice For you & me on that cruel old cross at Calvary.

Crucifixion was at that time the most cruel & shameful form of execution. This might be something compared to the gallows, electric chair, or gas chamber <> reserved only for the vilest criminals. And that was the death of heaven's best, when He came into this world. He was not allowed the natural death or an accidental death. He had to die the shameful death on the cross.

The previous verse describes what Jesus did. He did not seek a name for Himself. He humbled Himself. But, now we look at what God has done. Jesus humbled Himself, but, God has highly exalted Him. He did not seek a name for Himself; but, God has given Him a name above all names. He bent His knee to others, God has declared that every knee shall bow to Him.

What is the lesson in this for the Philippians <> & us? The lesson is that the way up is down, Meaning, we should not exalt ourselves but become servants of others, that God may exalt us in due time.
