Power for Christian living <> Philippians 4:1-2

Point of Contact <> Bro Ben Van Winkle

We have covered the philosophy of Christian living, the pattern for Christian living, the prize for Christian living, & now we will see the power for Christian living. All these other ways of Christian living would be meaningless & useless if there was no power. A philosophy of life is no good if there is no power to carry it out. A pattern is no good unless we have the power to carry it out. A prize is no good if the goal is set too high. So, that makes power an all important part of the Christian life.

I would think one of the reasons the Holy Spirit did not let Paul end this Epistle when he wrote in 3:1, “Finally my brethren,” was because He wanted to let us know today that there is power for Christian living. We need to know that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

We will find in this 4th & last chapter of Philippians, that joy is the source of power; that prayer is the secret of power; that thoughtful observation of Christ is the sanctuary of power.

“My joy & my crown” they were all going to be in the presence of the Lord someday, & Paul expected to receive a crown. Also they were his joy here on earth. Paul, deeply loved the believers in Philippi.

So he says stand, stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.” And, as Paul said to the Ephesian believers <> (Ephesians 6:13) take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil days, & having done all, to stand.”  “Stand.” The Christian faith will produce stability in life.

Paul comes to this area of hypocrisy in the church; apparently these two ladies weren't speaking to each other, we have already seen this in the believers at Philippi where Paul admonished them to be of the same mind in the Lord. He did not want them to be carbon copies of each other. They may have different opinions about many things, but that will not separate two people who have the mind of Christ. This is the glorious thing about the body of Christ that each member can be different & yet all are one in Christ.
