Paul's intercession for the Colossians <> Colossians 1:9-12

Paul's prayer for the Colossian Christians is a model for us today. As soon as he heard of the new faith of the Colossians, he began interceding  with God for them, asking Him to give them knowledge, wisdom, strength, & joy. He prayed that the new Christians at Colosse would grow into maturity, so that they might walk before God, pleasing Him & producing good works.

Paul's chief concern was that the new Christians in Colosse might have full knowledge of God's will. Our desire to serve God will be in vain without a proper understanding of who He is. So, Paul prays that the Colossian people might be filled with full knowledge of wisdom & understanding of who it is that they want to serve. Wisdom is the practical out working of of knowledge (James3:17) & that knowledge cannot be separated from a spiritual understanding, that comes through the discernment given by the Holy Spirit.

In addition to the full knowledge mentioned in (V:9) Paul desires that the Colossians walk worthy of the Lord. Paul wanted them to live in a manner that adequately reflected what God had done for them & what He was doing in them. We as Christians should dedicate our lives to God in order to please Him.

According to His glorious power means that believers are empowered not in proportion to their need but according to God's strength. So, Paul wants to see the power of God at work in the Colossians. Like Samson in (Judges 14:19) a believer's strength comes from God alone.

The word qualified means to be authorized to do a task. As believers we can never be qualified on our own, instead God must make us sufficient through Jesus Christ. God qualifies us for eternal life with Him, but, the Son will reward us at the end of the race (Revelation 22:12)
